introduction
Rabban yocahanan ben zaccai was a sage that lived before, during and after the destruction of the second temple , that occurred 70 BCE by the romans. As Moses, he was living 120 years (30 BCE- 90 AC), and as moses he was a leader in a crucial point in the history of the people of Israel. if moses was one of the creators of the people of Israel – ben zaccai was the one who saved the Judaism after the destruction of the second temple.
The act of the saving
Jerusalem in the time of the roman’s siege was in a disagreement situation .different groups were living in the city fighting against themselves instead of the romans.Ben zaacai understood that the romans will conquest the city soon and all the spiritual center can be gone among with the jewish people hat already had an exile in the past. When the brothers were fighting, he went out of Jerusalem in a coffin , playing himself as a dead person, and by his “death” , he gave back the Judaism the live , because he was able to meet Vespian, a military commander, that was the next emperor of Rome. Ben zaccai ,who predicted this, met him , got three wishes from him and he decided to build a different spiritual center in the city of yavneh , to save the descendants of rabban gamliel ( who was from the Davidic dynasty) and helped and old rabbi to get a medical treatment.
In a days when everyone thought about themselves , ben zaccai was thinking of his people. After the destruction of the second temple, Yabneh became a replacement to Jerusalem that was destructed.
All ho this happened only because a heroic , altruistic act of ben zaccai.
